Ambassador Mohammad Waheedul Hasan is retired Ambassador and remained as Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan.
Ambassador Mohammad Waheedul Hasan retired as Secretary to the Government of Pakistan in March 2017. He last served as Special Secretary, looking after Policy Planning and Public Diplomacy as well as Pakistan’s relations with Middle East, Africa and West Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad. During his about 35 years of career in Foreign Service of Pakistan, Mr. Waheedul Hasan worked at Pakistan’s various diplomatic missions including Amman, Seoul, Tokyo and Tehran. While in Amman as a young diplomat, Mr. Waheedul Hasan handled evacuation of over 17000 overseas Pakistanis who were forced to leave Kuwait via Iraq and Jordan as a result of First Gulf War 1990-91. This is thought to remain, to-date, the largest single evacuation of Pakistani nationals from any overseas destination.
Mr. Mohamamd Waheedul Hasan served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Republic of Uzbekistan from 2009 to 2013 and to Kingdom of Morocco from 2013 to 2015. During his tenure in Morocco, he was concurrently accredited to Republic of Liberia. As Ambassador, Mr. Waheedul Hasan was overseeing multidimensional activities including promotion of Pakistan’s political, economic and commercial relations with Uzbekistan, Morocco and Liberia and keeping in touch with the leadership at the highest level of the government, business, social and cultural fields. Welfare of the Pakistan community living in these countries and further growth of bilateral ties in the field of arts, music and culture were other areas of the Ambassador’s focus.
At Islamabad, Mr. Waheedul Hasan worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director General, Director and Section Head of various administrative and territorial bureaus. He also served at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat as Director General with National Security Advisor where he initiated preliminary draft of the country’s first National Security Policy.
Ambassador Waheedul Hasan holds Masters Degree in Pakistan Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Masters Degree in International Relations from International University of Japan, Nigata & Masters Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence University, Islamabad. He is proficient in Japanese language.
Ambassador Mohammad Waheedul Hasan was awarded Alawite Commander Wissam by HM King Mohammad VI of Morocco. The Order is bestowed by the King upon those persons who have made significant contributions to the Moroccan state including promotion of its bilateral relations.
