Institute Young Diplomatic Studies (IYDS)

is based on the model of Summer School of international standards which is three days engaging and illuminating academic and practical module for dynamic and exceptional university students and faculty members, graduates, young professionals, researchers, embassy staff and diplomats for getting exposed to innovative skills and fresh ideas of diplomacy, leadership and decision making skills to coup with the challenging environment. The IYDS is aimed to address the needs of emerging young leaders and officials of the age of 18-40 and having deep interest and background of Social Sciences to get exposed to opportunities and interact with policymakers in Pakistan for developing innovative ideas for solutions to the problems faced by the world in general and Pakistan in particular. Young exceptional, dynamic professionals from across Pakistan and around the globe are participating in this program with having a diverse background, providing a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment of unique nature. Special attention is being given to the youth groups from marginalized communities having a low-income background. It is a unique event providing an opportunity for the young ones to become dedicated, hardworking and passionate young diplomats and future leaders.

Islamabad, 18 August 2022 (TDI): The Embassy of Indonesia to Pakistan hosted the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS). 

 

The Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan, Adam Mulawarman Tugio delivered a lecture on Pakistan-Indonesia Relations and Networking.

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the IYDS as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

The Ambassador of Indonesia has been serving in Pakistan for the past 1.5 years. Pakistan and Indonesia have had strong ties that are based on respect and cooperation both locally and internationally.

 

In 1950, Pakistan and Indonesia forged a diplomatic alliance. One of Pakistan’s top 10 trading partners is Indonesia. The two nations’ trade relations have advanced significantly, with Indonesia now ranking as Pakistan’s eighth-largest trading partner.

 

Pakistan and Indonesia work closely together to back each other’s bids at the international forum. Both are participants in international and multilateral organizations such as the UN, OIC, NAM, G-77, Afro-Asian Conference, and D-8.

 

In areas of international and regional significance, like nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, there is harmony and close cooperation between the two nations.

 

The Afro-Asian Conference was founded by Pakistan, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. Indonesia backs Pakistan’s application for Full Dialogue Partner Status in ASEAN. Additionally, Indonesia backed Pakistan’s bid to join the UNHRC for the period 2021–2023.

 

Since the PTA came into force in 2013, trade relations with Indonesia have come a long way. Bilateral trade increased from US$466.5 million in 2004 to about US$2.6 billion in 2020, with the trade balance greatly in favor of Indonesia.

 

There is plenty of room for further expansion of the deal in the coming years. Talking about Indonesia, he said that Bali; the city of Indonesia is an important interaction for tourism between Pakistan and Indonesia.

 

The Ambassador recently visited the city of Peshawar in Pakistan and was very impressed with the generosity and hospitality of the people. Both countries have similarities in culture and history.

 

He enlightened the participants about the spices of Indonesia and Pakistan as well as Traditional and Complementary Medicine.

It is the 4th International Diplomats School, in which participants are given opportunities to interact with Ambassadors of different Embassies.

 

The participants are young professionals with diverse backgrounds, students, and faculty members across Pakistan. During the School, the participants will be meeting hosted by Ambassadors of different countries at their offices.

International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) is based on the model of the Public Diplomacy  approach for offering an opportunity for Diplomatic Missions to meet diverse groups of professionals and young people from across Pakistan having various ethnic, religious, linguistic, and regional background.

 

Hence, offering the Diplomatic Missions to increase their outreach and interaction with the young people from across Pakistan.

 

While on the other hand, IYDS offers young people to meet Ambassadors and Diplomates to know more about countries and build stronger relationships while returning to their communities.

Islamabad, 16 August 2022 (TDI): The Embassy of Iraq to Pakistan received the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS). The Ambassador of Iraq to Pakistan, Hamid Abbas Lafta delivered a lecture on Pakistan-Iraq Relations and Networking.

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

While talking to the participants, Ambassador Hamid Abbas Lafta started by adding that Pakistan and Iraq have long-standing ties based on shared faith, values, and culture. He said that Iraq was the first to recognize Pakistan.

He went on to say that Pakistan and Iraq signed oil deals in the late 90s. Moreover, the two countries’ relations are based on public diplomacy.

He enunciated that Pakistan and Iraq ought to increase religious tourism in Iraq. The two countries share a common understanding and viewpoint on a number of regional and global issues.

They continue to work closely together to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields. Recently the Foreign Minister of Pakistan and the Foreign Minister of Iraq paid also visited the two countries, respectively.

According to the Ambassador, the two countries have a multifaceted relationship marked by regular high-level exchanges and growing cooperation in a variety of fields.

There are numerous opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in trade, investment, education, technology, and infrastructure development.

In January 2022, Pakistan and Iraq signed an agreement to promote and facilitate bilateral tourism cooperation.

According to Iraqi Ambassador Hamid Abbas Lafta, Pakistan and Iraq will sign cooperation agreements in a variety of sectors, including trade promotion, defense agreements , and tariff rationalization, to strengthen the bilateral defense, economic, and trade ties.

Moreover, Ambassador Hamid Abbas Lafta shared that Iraq and Pakistan will sign agreements in the fields of education, air transport, double taxation, bilateral investments, human resources and labour, and scientific innovation.

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplmacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

The Italian Ambassador to Pakistan also distributed certificates amongst the participants of the IYDS and hosted a dinner reception as well. While addressing the participants, the Ambassador gave a brief overview of the relationship between Pakistan and Italy.

While giving the overview, he explained that two nations that are eager to advance world peace and development, Pakistan and Italy share a wide range of regional and global challenges as well as common points of view.

 

Pakistan and Italy have good relations in terms of economy and trade. Moreover, the Ambassador talked about how diplomacy got into function as well as the history of Italian public diplomacy.

 

Italian businesses can invest very profitably in Pakistan. Pakistan, with a population of about 220 million, continues to be a desirable market for Italian producers and entrepreneurs due to the country’s rising desire for high-end goods.

 

The Italian Embassy in Islamabad is dedicated to strengthening trade ties between the two nations. The ambassador advised both nations to investigate all of their options, concentrating on agriculture, machinery, textiles, and tourism.

Islamabad, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin welcomed the participants of the International Young diplomats School at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Islamabad.

 

A briefing session was held on the topic of the relationship between Pakistan and Kazakhstan. Pakistan and Kazakhstan have friendly ties built on a shared perspective on global concerns, as well as understanding and goodwill towards one another.

 

According to Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin, relations between the two countries are excellent and have the potential to go to new levels of collaboration. Kazakhstan is willing to join the multi-billion project of CPEC.

 

He claimed that investments by Kazakhastan in Pakistan are also being discussed. Due to its sizable population and appeal to international investors, he claimed Pakistan is a very promising market.

 

He listed three pillars to this effect: strengthening direct linkages between the two nations’ universities, encouraging direct ties between think tanks, and fostering information-sharing between the two nations’ mass media.

 

The Kazakhstan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation currently serves as the primary body for executing interstate cooperation in the trade and economic domain.

 

TV programme exchanges can improve cultural cooperation between the two nations by allowing people to learn more about one another’s customs, festivals, and civilizations. He claimed that inviting artists and troupes may further strengthen ties between the two countries.

 

According to Yerzhan Kistafin, research and technological collaboration between Kazakhstan and Pakistan are growing. He claimed that direct contact has been between Kazakh-British Technical University and Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. They want to swap scholars and students.

Islamabad, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan, Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabaei hosted the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) in the Embassy of Palestine in Islamabad.

 

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

A briefing session was held on the topic of the relationship between Pakistan and Palestine. Pakistan and the Palestinian Authority have a strong political relationship.

 

The brotherly relations between Pakistan and Palestine are based on common religious values, traditions, and cultural values.

 

The Ambassador congratulated Pakistan on the 75th anniversary of its independence. He further stated that the Palestinian government is working with the Pakistani government on the level of traders and chambers of commerce and that a separate economic desk had been established at Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

 

Ambassador Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabaei shared that the Al Aqsa mosque provides a strong bond between Pakistan and Palestine.

 

He went on to shed light on the history of Palestine and its occupation. Both nations are eager to invest in a range of industries, including agriculture, textiles, and wooden items.

 

The Ambassador continued by saying that he is now urging interested parties to invest in the travel and tourism sector as well as educational, cultural, and student exchange programs to advance peace and harmony.

 

50 thousand students have graduated from Pakistan so far. Also, a number of Palestinian cadets get training by Pakistan Army. Moreover, in the future 13 MoUs will be signed in different sectors between the two countries.

Islamabad, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The Embassy of the Philippines to Pakistan hosted the participants of the International Young diplomats School (IYDS) on the second day of the program. Chargé D’affaires of Philippines to Pakistan, Maria Agnes M. Cervantes welcomed the IYDS participnts.

 

The Deputy Head of the Mission of the Philippines to Pakistan, Dan Erwin C. Bagaporo enlightened the participants about Pakistan-Philippines relations as well as the history and geostrategic significance of her country.

 

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the IYDS as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

During the lecture, he further highlighted the diverse culture of the Philippines and shared that its people were known as ‘people of laughs.’ Likewise, the Deputy Head of the Mission shared the vision of his country till 2040.

 

About the ties between the two countries, he shared that Pakistan and the Philippines are members of WB, IMF, ADB, WTO, AIIB, ASEAN, as well as SEATO.

 

3000 Pinoy live in Pakistan while 1500-2000 Pakistanis live in the Philippines. Dan Erwin C. Bagaporo also gave a session on the South China Sea and the tourism sector of the Philippines.

 

The relations between Pakistan and the Philippines can be strengthened through people-to-people exchanges, particularly through visits from legislators and other high-ranking officials, cultural events, and scholarships.

 

The Philippines-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) was established in 2004 to discuss ways to boost bilateral trade and investment, build on prior cooperation, support interfaith dialogue initiatives, deepen security and military cooperation to improve each other’s ability to combat terrorism and extremism, share experiences on national unity and reconciliation efforts.

Islamabad, 16 August 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Nicolae Goia hosted the Participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) on the first day of the program, in the Embassy of Romania in Islamabad. A briefing session was held on the topic of the relationship between Pakistan and Romania.

The Ambassador explained that according to the world’s Gross Domestic Product, Romania is presently a medium-to-high income exporting economy, ranking 41 (GDP).

Being a member of the European Union, Romania was a steadfast backer of Pakistan when it came to granting it the GSP Plus status, which is another reason why Romania is significant to Pakistan. This device has led to an increase in Pakistani exports to the EU of more than 30%.

Regarding relations between Pakistan and Romania, the Ambassador said that since diplomatic ties were established in 1964, they have helped to bring the two countries closer together.

One example is Romania’s support for Pakistan in 2011 when it applied for membership in the Security Council. According to him, the economic aspect of the relationship between Pakistan and Romania is much less pleasant than the political aspect and needs to be improved.

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries also met in Davos. Both nations have positive ties in the cultural sphere. Almost 200 Pakistani students are presently studying in Romania and receiving training as engineers, physicians, IT specialists, and businesspeople. HEC and COMSTECH are offering scholarship to students of Bachelors, MS and PhD degree.

He said while talking to the participants that Pakistan is an important country for Romania and that as an Ambassador he felt safe in Pakistan. He also shared the history of his country during the session.

International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) is based on the model of the Public Diplomacy approach for offering an opportunity for Diplomatic Missions to meet diverse groups of professionals and young people from across Pakistan having various ethnic, religious, linguistic, and regional backgrounds.

Hence, offering the Diplomatic Missions to increase their outreach and interaction with the young people from across Pakistan. While on the other hand, IYDS offers young people to meet Ambassadors and Diplomats to know more about countries and build stronger relationships while returning to their communities.

The group of 16-20 participants with ages 18-40 having diverse academic and professional backgrounds from different regions of Pakistan joined to be part of the program.

Islamabad, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan hosted the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS).

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama delivered a lecture on Pakistan-Sri Lanka relations.

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the IYDS as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

In addition, the High Commissioner also shed light on the evolving geopolitical circumstances in the region and beyond. This is the second day of the program that kicked off yesterday.

In his lecture, Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama highlighted that there were several high-level visits from both sides, which typified strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

He shared that the two countries enjoyed deep-rooted bilateral relations, as old as the two country’s independence. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are cooperating in various dimensions for mutual benefit. Both have the strongest possible ties despite the challenges.

 

He shared that Pakistan is the second largest trading partner of Sri Lanka in South Asia. Likewise, Sri Lanka was the first country to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Pakistan, which became operational on June 12, 2005.

 

However, the relations can be strengthened more by ensuring people-to-people exchanges, particularly through visits from legislators and other high-ranking officials, cultural events, and scholarships.

 

The High Commissioner also congratulated the organizers for hosting this important public diplomacy school and commended them for their tireless efforts to make this program possible.

Islamabad, 16 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the islamic Republic of Pakistan, Ulanbek Totuiaev welcomed the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) and its Organizers.

 

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the IYDS as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

Ambassador Ulanbek Totuiaev briefed the participants about Pakistan-Kyrgyz relations and Networking. Talking about Kyrgyzstan he shared that it is known as the pearl of Central Asia.

 

According to the Ambassador, Pakistan is now a major player in global and regional trade due to its geostrategic importance, bordering the Middle East and South Asian states on one hand and the global economic power China on the other.

 

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have successfully implemented the railway project connecting Central Asia with Pakistan. Aside from that Pakistan gets one thousand tons of coal from Kyrgyzstan. Likewise, in terms of collaboration in the education sector, 10000 Pakistani students are studying in Kyrgyzstan.

 

He emphasized that the SCO, CASA-1000, and QTTA are living examples of friendly relations between the two countries. He believes that his country can serve as a connectivity hub for Pakistani exports to Central Asian and European markets via road.

 

He also emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic has a high potential for tourism and investment because both countries have EU GSP+, and by leveraging free trade zones, both countries can boost their economic activity, particularly with exports to European markets.

 

He believes that a direct flight between Bishkek and Islamabad will boost trade opportunities and improve people-to-people contacts.

Islamabad, 18 August 2022 (TDI): The Representative office of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to Pakistan hosted the participants of the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) for the final session. 

 

The Ambassador of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to Pakistan, Dilsad Senol delivered a lecture on Pakistan-Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Relations and information about TRNC. Pakistan and TRNC have good relations.

 

The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) launched the International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) as a ground-breaking program with the goal of highlighting the value of diplomacy in the rapidly evolving, globally connected world.

 

Ambassador Dilsad Senol apprised the participants about the history of TRNC. She shared that currently, the country has 27 missions abroad in 20 countries.

 

Ambassador briefed the participants about the Cyprus conflict and its historical and contemporary situation.

 

Approximately 10,000 Pakistanis are living in TRNC. While 3000 Pakistani students are studying in TRNC. Pakistan has a three hundred and fifty thousand TRNC population. Tourism and higher education are the primary source of diplomacy for TRNC.
