The network

The Institute’s work depends on the people it brings into the conversation. Each year IPDS convenes dialogues, webinars and forums, publishes commentary and policy research, edits the Journal of Peace and Diplomacy, and runs training for young diplomats and leaders. All of it is stronger when the right expert is in the room.

The IPDS Scholars Network is how we find them. It brings together scholars and scholar-practitioners from universities, think tanks, diplomatic services and international organisations across the world, organised around the Institute’s ten centres of study. When a centre plans an event, commissions analysis, needs a reviewer, or develops a research project, it turns to the network first.

Members hear about opportunities that match their expertise before they are announced publicly, and choose which to accept. There is no fee and no obligation.

Who can join

The network is open to people in any country whose research or professional experience bears on the Institute’s work.

Scholars
—

University faculty and researchers in international relations, political science, peace and conflict studies, security studies, area studies, economics, international law, history and related fields.

—

Researchers at think tanks and policy institutes.

—

Postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates at an advanced stage with published work.

Scholar-practitioners
—

Serving and retired diplomats, and officials of governments and international organisations.

—

Defence, security, development and legal practitioners who write and speak on policy.

—

Journalists and analysts with an established record on international affairs.

What we look for is a record: published research, policy work, or professional experience that others can learn from. Early-career researchers looking for a structured programme may prefer the Non-Resident Research Fellowship, and anyone may submit analysis through Write for IPDS.

Questions

Is there a fee to join?

No. Membership of the network is free.

Am I committing to anything?

No. Joining tells us you would welcome invitations. Each invitation sets out what is involved, and you are free to decline any of them.

Are speakers and authors paid?

IPDS engagements are generally honorary. Where an invitation includes an honorarium, travel or accommodation, the invitation says so.

Will my details be published?

No. Your profile is used only by IPDS to contact you about opportunities, and is not shared outside the Institute without your permission. If you speak at an event or publish with us, we will agree with you the biography that appears.

Can I join from outside Pakistan?

Yes. The network is international, and most engagements can take place online.

How do I update or remove my details?

Submit the form again with the same email address to update your profile, or reply to your acknowledgement email to ask for your details to be changed or removed.

I am a doctoral student. Can I join?

Advanced doctoral candidates with published work are welcome. If you are earlier in your research, the Non-Resident Research Fellowship and Write for IPDS may suit you better.
