IPDS convened the first Emerging Young Women Leaders Congress in Islamabad from 1 to 3 December 2015, under the theme “Building on the Past, Embracing the Future: Network of Present and Future Women Leaders of Pakistan”. It was organised with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in partnership with the Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan (IUCPSS) and the National Testing Service (NTS) Pakistan.
Nobel Peace Laureate Tawakkol Karman chaired and inaugurated the Congress on her first visit to Pakistan, and with IPDS President Farhat Asif signed the foundation stone of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security, today the IPDS Centre for Women, Peace and Leadership. Thirty young women selected from across the country took part in six mentoring sessions with senior women from politics, media, civil society, the civil service, education and business. The Congress closed with a public talk by Ms Karman at the National Library Auditorium on 3 December.
The Congress is one of IPDS’s flagship programmes, run alongside the International Young Diplomats School. Read the full record of the Emerging Young Women Leaders Congress.
