UN Backs New World Map to Correct Africa’s Size, US Casts Lone Dissent

The UN General Assembly voted 164-1 to endorse the Equal Earth projection over the centuries-old Mercator map, which shows Africa at roughly Greenland’s size even though the continent is actually fourteen times larger; the United States cast the lone dissenting vote, while six countries abstained.
